The Yugoslav Cinematheque and the Slovenian Cinematheque in Ljubljana are jointly marking 90 years since the birth and 25 years since the death of prominent Serbian and Yugoslav director Živojin Žika Pavlović (1933-1998), who spent a significant part of his career in Slovenia.

In cooperation with these two film archives, an integral retrospective of Pavlović’s short and feature films was organized, which opened in Ljubljana on September 21st and will last until the first days of October, and will also be shown in Belgrade during the fall.

On this occasion, the Yugoslav Cinematheque and the Slovenian Cinematheque published a monograph dedicated to Živojin Pavlović in both Slovenian and Serbian. Both books contain essays by Zdenko Vrdlovec, Andrej Šprah and Nace Zavrl, as well as Goran Gocić, Ivana Kronja and Greg Dekjur, while the Serbian edition will also include a text by Saša Radojević. The two monographs are visually different, i.e. adapted to the publishing activity of the two cinematheques.

Co-editors are Varja Močnik from the Slovenian Cinematheque and Marjan Vujović, manager of the Museum of the Yugoslav Cinematheque. The two participated in the promotion of the Slovenian edition on September 22, along with Andrej Šprah and Ivana Kronja. The Serbian edition will be presented as part of the upcoming retrospective of Živojin Pavlović at the Yugoslav Cinematheque.

The opening of the retrospective in Ljubljana saw speeches by the director of the Slovenian Cinematheque, Ženja Lejler Kos, the manager of the Archives of the Yugoslav Cinematheque, Aleksandar Saša Erdeljanović, and the writer Aleksandar Gatalica, currently the first secretary of the Serbian Embassy in Slovenia and the one who gave the initial idea for this project.
