The Croatian-Serbian co-production Garbura, the debut feature film of screenwriter and director Josip Žuvan, will have its world premiere at the upcoming 70th International Film Festival in San Sebastian. The film was created with the support of Film Center Serbia, as well as with the support of the Croatian Audiovisual Center, the MEDIA program, the Eurimages fund and HRT. The realization of “Garbur” will be shown at the A category festival in San Sebastián in the “New Directors” selection.
According to the synopsis of the film, Antonije and Nikola are 12-year-olds who live door to door in an old town neighborhood, and who amuse themselves by lighting firewood, so they record it all and post it on the Internet, hoping to have millions of views like other YouTubers. Their families have been in a long-standing feud and are not happy about the boys hanging out, which leads to complications. The main roles in the film are played by Franco Floigl and Mauro Ercegović Gracin.
The producer of the film “Garbura” is Damir Teresak (Maxima Film), and the co-producer is Nikolina Vučetić Zečević (Biberche Productions). The film crew, in addition to Žuvan, consists of: director of photography Tomislav Sutlar, set designer Petra Poslek and costume designer Katarina Pilić.
Along with co-producer Nikolina Vučetić Zečević, the Serbian part of the team includes masker Jasmina Lilić, make-up artist Aleksandra Mitić, cinematographer and sound designer Zoran Maksimović, microphone operator Ognjen Obradović, while the Belgrade studio Digital mono did the sound post-production. The cast also includes Serbian actor Ljubomir Bandović, who plays one of the key roles, the character of Zoran.
