Mladen Kovačević’s new film The Possibility of Paradise, created in a Serbian-Swedish co-production, will premiere in Venice, in the Days of Authors (Giornate degli Autori) selection.

Filmed on an island in Indonesia, this is a film about the tension between life’s possibilities revolving around the question of how life should be lived, where each decision leads us to a different version of ourselves. And while the earthly paradise is nothing more than an ideal of the imagination, mankind’s tireless search for happiness does not stop.

The film follows the lives of the characters on an unnamed paradise island. The children who live on top of the island are waiting for the rain to stop. The former executive director of an advertising agency signs a contract to purchase land for her new mansion. An entrepreneur battles the nature while building a resort in the jungle. A vet cleans strangers’ yards of snakes. An influencer, disappointed in love, recovers from losing everything overnight. Father and son prepare to leave forever, not knowing where. A dancer takes on a new identity, distancing herself from everything she has ever known. Divers venture into uncharted waters, risking their lives for their need to conquer.

Director Mladen Kovačević also wrote the screenplay, editor Jelena Maksimović, cinematographer Marko Milovanović, composer Rebekka Karijord, sound designer Jakov Munizaba and others worked on the film.
