The 15th Beldocs 2022 International Documentary Film Festival opened with a grand ceremony at the Belgrade Youth Center. Starting tonight, until May 18th, during the eight days of the festival, BELDOCS audiences will have the opportunity to view more than 100 documentaries in 12 program selections.
The festival opened with the film Museum of the Revolution by Srdjan Keča, about the never-ending project that started in 1961, which envisaged the construction of a large museum in Belgrade in honor of the revolution of the Yugoslav people, created in co-production with Croatia and the Czech Republic, which is part of the selection of the Serbian competition program. Along with Keča, the attendees were welcomed by award-winning authors from previous festivals Vanja Kovačević, Dušan Čavić, Dušan Šaponja, Dragan Nikolić, Mladen Kovačević and Marija Stojnić.
“We have existed and grown as a festival and organization for 15 years, and for 15 years we have been dedicated to brave, authentic and creative films, films that leave no one indifferent, that encourage world thinking and bring people together,” said Beldocs Festival Director Mara Prohaska Marković.
Last year, Beldocs, in cooperation with the Docudays festival in Kiev, organized a program selection focusing on contemporary Ukrainian documentaries. “This year it was planned for us to go to Kiev, but unfortunately there was an invasion of Ukraine,” said the festival’s artistic director Marko Grba Singh, adding: “I would like to say that our thoughts are with our friends in Kiev, as well as the Ukrainian people going through the horrors of destruction. I think that it is the duty of us documentarians to draw attention to such things and that we should never be silent out of fear. ”
Igor Stanojević, the selector of the festival, greeted the audience with these words: “I am glad to see you tonight first of all. In Belgrade, you often hear conversations about which is the best festival and which festival shows the best films. But, even for me as a selector, one thing is even more important, and that is all of you and all of us here together, because Beldocs can and should be a place where we can dream together and create together. And, yes. We also have the best films. ”
Beldocs 2022 is a cross-section of contemporary documentary film at the world level, so this year the program brings together the works of award-winning authors gathered at international festivals gathered around a common value – to influence the world with an authentic worldview.
As part of the accompanying program of the festival therer will bean immersive reality exhibition where the audience will have the opportunity to see the achievements created through the latest VR technology.
