After the success at the competitions organized by Film Center Serbia (FCS), Slovenian Film Center, the Dutch Film Fund and the MEDIA Creative Europe program, the project for the new feature film by Serbian director Maja Miloš, entitled Crack in the Ice, won support in Italy at the competition of the Directorate for Film and Audiovisual Creativity (Direzione generale Cinema e audiovisivo). The mentioned support amounts to 150 thousand euros, and the Italian co-producer is the house NIGHTSWIM S.R.L .

Marija is an ice skater who lives with her father, a truck driver, on the outskirts of Belgrade. Overwhelmed by the pain of losing her mother who died three years earlier, she cannot express her fiery sexuality. She perceives it as a great secret that haunts her and she feels worthless. Mary’s father becomes close with a woman who then moves into their house together with her two daughters. Maria supports her father but realizes that she can’t trust her new stepmother…

In her explanation of the project, the author Maja Miloš explained: “The crack in the ice deals with the issues of the integrity of women in a materialistically and competitively organized world filled with aggression. The film follows the heroine’s intimate journey of self-acceptance and integrity, emphasizing the extent of degradation and exploitation of women through various social strata, with the aim of depicting real life in a raw way without accompanying moralizing. Narrative models of fairy tales are immersed in a contemporary story to explore how humanistic ideas of fairy tales work in today’s world… ”
