In December of 2007, after participating in Podgorica marathon(Montenegro), 3 Ethiopian athletes, decided not to return to Ethiopia, but to run across the border with Serbia, and ask for political refugee status there. After two months in a refugee camp, they were invited by Serbian coach Zoran Molovich to move to his property in Pambukovica village, 100 km from Belgrade, and to train and live there. Ever since they won their first race in Serbia in March of 2008, it became clear that they are faster then any of the Serbian marathone runners. In summer of 2008 Serbian sport officials promised the Ethiopians that they will recive Serbian citizenship and passports and become members of the serbian national team. Without any explanation, this promise was never fullfiled and therefore Ethiopians didn't solve their legal status.
