The Sands is a story about a Hungarian-Jewish-Serbian family portrayed through the eyes of the already grown up son. In his search he tries to restore his childhood and piece it together from dreams and memories.An already sunken world, the world of a mid-European town with its figures, looms up from visions of a delicate boy and his father, who, running from bone-shattering fears and ultimate humiliation, ends up faking lunacy and becomes a lonely clown in the drama of life. The Sands is the anatomy of senseless hatred and fear. However, warmth and irony that emerge from its depth do not allow it to become just another story about pain and suffering.The Sands is based on the novels by the famous writer Danilo Ki¹.
