“SONJA” is a Biographical Documentary full length movie about Sonja Savich, one of the most important movie star in the EX Yugoslav Cinematography. Movie theme is the life of this unusual artistic phenomenon, with strong talent, expression and charisma, who is considered to be an urban icon, even a sex symbol for some, or a rebellion icon for others. The movie follows three levels of hers public life: actress career, her creativity as an avant-garde and multimedia artist, and her public influence, as a person that has always strongly commented on social and political conditions. What happened to Sonja Savich, the great acting talent, broadly educated person, with strong personal integrity? Sonja Savich was a part of generation which is, in global generation theory, referred to as the Generation X, generation that is reactive, sensible, prone to self-irony and disassociated from high-mystified stories. Yugoslav Generation X had an aristocratic youth, full of creative freedom and energy, but the best years they have spent in war or fleeing from it. In Adulthood they lived in harsh transition game, kind of social Darwinism that eliminates those who are too sensitive, or ask too many questions, and those who are atypical individuals. This is a story about Yugoslavia and war, art, drug addiction, depression… Would fate of Sonja Savich be any different in a healthy society – is only one of the questions that this movie intends to ask.
