THE REJECT

The movie tells a story about a man in his late forties. This is the age when nature ceases to take care of a man, deprives him of his immune system and leaves him to his own devices. The main struggle of our main character is contained in the fact that he is living in an environment which also has a weakened immune system, and which also has been left to its own devices. Survival in such a transitional situation calls for radical change and rigorous discipline. Our character is whole-heartedly in favor of changes in his environment and the external factors of life, but refuses to give in when it comes to changing himself. He has no desire to do so, or more precisely, he believes it is too late and refuses to alter his illusory feeling of freedom, his bohemian tendencies, his sloppiness, and his hedonism. Yet, our character is a gentleman; he does not wish to represent a hindrance to his environment, his nation, and the entire progressive world, nor to his former friends or his child, which is why he escapes to the sea.
