The Board of Directors of Film Center Serbia accepted the proposals of the commissions in the competition categories: Co-financing the production of minority co-productions, Financing the improvement and development of film scripts and Pre-digitalization and digitalization of cinemas. Here are the decisions and explanations.

Co-financing the production of minority co-productions

The The Management Board accepted the proposal of the Commission of Film Center Serbia in the category of Co-financing the production of minority co-productions. The commission consisted of: Iva Plemić Divjak (president), Feti Dautović, Sabolč Tolnai, Goran Radovanović and Srdjan Koljević. A total of forty-three (43) projects applied for the competition, and eight (8) were selected. The competition commission harmonized its positions and selected the following projects:

From the Commission’s explanation: “A proven screenwriting team, international cast and regional distribution guaranteed in the early stages of production form an excellent basis for this project to continue fulfilling its extensive co-production potential and receive funding in other planned countries in the region as well as other European countries.” This project was chosen by the commission unanimously, without any doubt in its future great success.

From the explanation of the Commission: “A screenplay in which the past, present and future of the Balkans are viewed in an original way, through a prism and mirror of its own- through the legacy of Bogumils, early Christians and ancient customs of indigenous people – through the life story of a young archaeologist from Zagreb.”

Dizziness
Director: Siniša Dragin
Serbian co-producer: October film
Country of majority producer: Romania

From the explanation of the Commission: “The project of the Serbian director Siniša Dragin, which he has been creating in Romania for a long time, where he has an enviable position of an author with a recognizable style.” In this project Dragin masterfully presents his theme of choice – the Romanian “revolution”.

From the explanation of the Commission: “The new project by Rajko Grlić and Ante Tomić is a disarming life case study on the relationship between the omnipotent and the disenfranchised who manage to regain part of their dignity in a bloody showdown, but are left with bloodied hands.”

From the explanation of the Commission: “A very current and important topic of xenophobia and relations between the minority and majority in a community, translated into a concrete and interesting drama of the protagonist who, under the influence of amnesia, has to face his beliefs again and reconsider them.”

From the explanation of the Commission: “A complex story about the search for identity, for fitting in and success, in the milieu of the so-called Secondos, the second generation of immigrants in Switzerland, during a regular annual military exercise in the Swiss army.”

From the explanation of the Commission: “A project that shows that a topic that has been examined many time – the prison island of Goli Otok – can be processed from a new angle, all thanks to the original premise and concept of the project.”

From the explanation of the Commission: “An emotional story about growing up, adorned with the author’s proven seductive approach of characteristic redundancy and unpretentiousness. The Commission is pleased to unanimously support this film’s realization. ”

Financing the improvement and development of film scripts

The Management Board accepted the proposal of the Commission of Film Center Serbia in the category of financing the improvement and development of film scripts. Five (5) projects were supported, out of seventy-one (71) applicants. The commission was composed of: Predrag Perišić (president), Milan Puzić, Katarina Ralević, Mina Đukić and Ivana Mladenović (members). After the debate, the Competition Commission harmonized its positions and proposed projects for support, which were accepted by the Board of Directors. Andadasi (feature film)
Authors: Ognjen Obradović and Gvozden Đurić

From the explanation of the Commission: “The city of Užice, just before the 1999 bombing, is the where Uglješa grew up. While his older brother and crew are trying to become Arkan’s tigers by blowing up the pastry shop and show their masculinity – Uglješa, is drawing so he can sell his drawings to buy a VHS cassette of the movie Little Mermaid.”

So Much For Today (feature film)
Author: Marko Đorđević

From the explanation of the Commission: “The appearance of the dog Kuliša in the life of ten-year-old Marta and her parents Moca and Višnja, leads to interesting situations that remind them what keeps them together and helps them build a shield from reality and connect more closely.”

In the Shadow of the Horns (feature film)
Author: Ognjen Glavonić

From the explanation of the Commission: “The film follows a group of young people  who are forming a black metal band in a small town in Vojvodina. Their desire to rise above the monotonous everyday life provokes resistance from the locals and leads to conflict. ”

Another Spring (feature-length documentary)
Author: Mladen Kovačević

From the explanation of the Commission: “How is it possible for the biggest post-war epidemic of the most deadly disease in human history to hit Yugoslavia?” The story of the eradication of smallpox is one of the most important stories in human civilization, therefore, it is necessary to record it. ”

Bees (feature film)
Author: Iva Brdar

From the explanation of the Commission: “This is a story wrote with talent, about a girl who has certain mental problems due to a conflict with her mother. After the brutal disappearance of her mother, for which she blames herself, the young girl Aurora loses her voice and goes to live with her aunt who lives a secluded life in the mountains. Then, swarms of bees suddenly appear in the village.”

Pre-digitalization and digitalization of cinema

The Commission composed of: Goran Šakota (president), Jelena Čubra, Ivan Ikić, Ivan Pribićević and Stefan Orlandić (members), passed the Proposal on the selection of projects under the Competition for financing and co-financing of projects in cinematography for 2020 in the category Pre-digitalization and digitalization of cinema. The Management Board accepted the Commission’s proposal.
