Mladen Đorđević’s docudrama Vienna Hallways will be screened at the “Kamerat” workers’ film festival, which will be held from June 29th to July 2nd in Hrastnik, Slovenia.
The film was awarded two prizes at FEST 2020 – the “Milutin Čolić” award from Politika newspaper for the best Serbian film of the festival, as well as the audience award for the best European film in the main competition program. He was also awarded the “Živojin Pavlović” award at the Film Direction Festival in Leskovac.
The main character is Darko Markov, who tries to make a bitterly humorous theatre play about the life of Viennese immigrant workers from ex-Yugoslavia, based on the motives of his novel. Behind the opulent Viennese facades, lies hidden a world of outsiders and desperadoes, who live torn between Austria and their homeland. The witch doctor Vladica is also there to strengthen their connection with their birthplace, and they all visit her regularly, seeking comfort.
The twelve-part docu-fiction series Gastarbeiter Stories was created From the material that Đorđević recorded over the course of several years,. The first episode of that series is actually the film Passengers, which was also supported by Film Center Serbia in the competition for the feature-length documentary film. The series is now available on the RTS PLANETA platform.
The director and screenwriter is Mladen Đorđević, who is also the producer of the series with Nevena Savić. The director of photography is Dalibor Tonković, the editors are Pierrin Basquiera and Milan Jakonić, the sound designers are Vladimir Živković, Miloš Drndarević and Vladimir Uspenski, and the music composer is Janja Lončar.
