The film Father, directed by Srdan Golubović, has won another award – a medal for the best international narrative film at the 21st International Film Festival in Calgary. The film, made with the support of FCS was recently awarded in Pula, Croatia and has previously won two awards at the Berlin International Film Festival.
The synopsis reveals the following: A neglected and upset woman comes in front of a factory with two small children and threatens to set herself on fire if her husband is not paid the back wages and severance pay. No one reacts, she sets herself on fire while her children scream. Nikola, her husband, works as a day laborer, two years ago he was fired from the factory, which went bankrupt. When they tell him what happened, Nikola runs to the factory and finds out that the woman was taken to the hospital, and that the children were taken over by the Center for Social Work. At the Center for Social Work, Nikola says that the children have already been placed in a foster family and that they will stay there, until it is determined whether Nikola has adequate conditions to take care of them. When he finds out that his children have been taken away, Nikola decides to go on foot to Belgrade to the Ministry out of protest, despair and the need to prove to himself and others, to seek justice and the right to his children. Nikola leaves for Belgrade with a backpack on his back, carrying with him the only thing he has left – love for his children.
