The project for a TV series titled Turbo was selected among 16 projects from around the world to be featured in the Series Mania Forum.
The Series Mania Forum is a prestigious co-production pitching forum held in Lille, France, and is part of the Series Mania Festival, the most relevant festival for drama series in Europe. In addition to the Turbo project, this year’s edition of the Forum will feature new projects by series producers such as Young Pope and The Last Panthers.
Series Mania president and founder Laurence Herszberg said: “The heart and soul of the Series Mania Forum, the co-production pitch continues to be a stepping stone to funding the best projects in development around the world. With more than 400 entries, this year for the first time from around the world, it would not be easy to narrow down the selection to 15 series. With projects from Argentina, Spain, Brazil, Russia, as well as projects from Europe and Israel, our selection has never been more diverse. We are especially pleased to be able to present a project from Serbia as well, especially given that the Balkans are becoming a creative region and a hot spot on the rise.”
Turbo is the story of Dragan, an old-fashioned criminal who returns to Belgrade in 1991 after serving a four-year sentence abroad and fails to adapt to the changes that occur with lightning speed. The writers of the series are Milica Živanović, who also represents Serbia this year in the educational program Serial Eyes in Berlin, as well as Matthias Nerlich and Boris Grgurović, and the producers of the series are Milan Stojanović and Martthias Nerlich in front of Sense Production.
The TV series project was part of the MIDPOINT TV Launch initiative, which was developed under the tutelage of Maggie Murphy (UCLA) and Steve Matthews (HBO Europe), while Erik Jendressen (Band of Brothers) stated that Turbo was the best script he had ever read in a workshop. Turbo will be co-produced with Germany, Italy and Sweden and the rights for Serbia and the region are still available.
