MEDIA desk Serbia is pleased to announce that in 2019 users from Serbia, through various calls for project applications, have received the largest support to date from Creative Europe MEDIA sub-programme.
Serbia completed its participation in the MEDIA sub-programme in 2019 with a total support of EUR 997,235. This is the largest support that Serbian companies and organizations have received during their participation in the MEDIA sub-programme since December 2015.
The MEDIA sub-programme provides support through 14 calls for projects, and companies and organizations from Serbia have been successful in a total of 7 categories.
The Prababa Production Company, Gargantua Films, Režim Ltd, Dribbling Pictures and Non-Aligned Films were successful in the single project development category and have secured a total of EUR 155,000 for the development of 2 feature films (Chul’s Temptations and Game Trail) and 3 documentaries (Black Wedding, And what now, and what then? and Without).
2019 was also marked by two successful applications for the Group Projects Development competition. Support was awarded to This and That Productions and Sense Production for a total of EUR 301,822.
This and That Productions received EUR 170,000 in funding. The support is intended for the development of 4 projects, two TV series and two feature films: the series Dirty Blood, directed by Milutin Petrović and the series Saber, by Goran Stanković and Vladimir Tagić; the film Five Skyscrapers, the debut project of Rastko Petrović and the new film by Mirjana Karanović, The People’s Drama.
The production company Sense Production has received support for the development of one TV series and two feature films, as well as the production of a short film: the tv series Turbo and the films Alive and Well, the new film by Ivan Marinović and Showtime. The production of the short feature film Goalgetter by Ivan Stojiljković, was also supported within this slate application. Sense Production company garnered total support of € 131,822.
The good run of Serbian film festivals continues, making Serbia one of the few countries in the region with 3 successful film festivals supported by MEDIA sub-programmes, totaling EUR 119,000. The supported festivals are Free Zone, the Palić European Film Festival and the Beldox International Documentary Film Festival. The Beldocs Festival also received support through the Market Access Competition in the amount of EUR 52,500 for the organization of the Beldocs Industry program.
In the category of automatic distribution support, distributors from Serbia received a total of EUR 172,494. The list of distributors eligible for funding included 2i Film, Blitz Film, Dexin Film and MCF Megacom. In the category of selective distribution support, EUR 102,648 was secured.
A total of 12 cinemas from Serbia, which are part of the Europa Cinemas network from the MEDIA sub-programme, received funds worth EUR 88,582.
