The competition program of the 10th Bašta Fest, which will be held from June 29th to July 2nd in Bajina Bašta, was announced after consideration of almost 600 films from all over the world. Selector Maja Šuša chose 29 short films from 20 countries, four of which are from Serbia, to put together an exciting and diverse competition program.

During the four days of the festival, the audience will have the opportunity to see films from Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia, France, China, Russia, Brazil, Turkey, Lithuania, Denmark, Greece, Hungary, Belgium, Spain, Armenia, Pakistan, Iran, South Africa and Italy, and the festival team is especially proud of nine films from the region.

The films will compete for the main jury awards: “Golden Imagination” for the best film, “Golden Interpretation” for the best male and female roles, as well as two special awards. In addition, there is an award for the best film of the Youth Jury, as well as a regional award for best cinematography “Golden Visualization”, awarded in cooperation with Cineplanet rental, by an individual professional jury.

“From very successful festival hits, awarded at major festivals, to student works, the selection of films for Bašta Fest never depended on their previous festival showings. It is important that we bring a high-quality, exciting program to the audience in Bajana Bašta, which opens up and examines some new topics”, said the artistic director and selector of the festival, Maja Šuša.

“Young authors mainly deal with the issue of growing up, questioning oneself in relation to the world, first falling in love, sexual experiences and questioning, discovering one’s place under the sun.” We try to entertain, provoke and make the audience laugh, and it seems to me that they respond very well, especially since year after year the number of people visiting the festival grows. We nurture young authors and want to draw attention to the short film form, which has its own rules and a completely different framework than what we are used to watching. We award actors, which is rare for a short film festival, and we really try to give all young filmmakers a boost,” added Maja Šuša, who is also one of the founders of the festival.

This year’s selection is divided into six blocks: Carousel of Life, Expedition, Everything’s Okay, Boys, Real Men, Rock Women and Get Me Out of Here.

After the award ceremony, the festival will traditionally close with a screeneing of a debu film. This time it’s Have You Seen This Woman? directed by Dušan Zorić and Matija Gluščević, along with which we will watch Lana Barić’s short film “Snežana”.
